Editorial Review:

Amazon.com essential video:
Ancient curses, all-powerful monsters, shape-changing assassins, scantily-clad stewardesses, laser battles, huge explosions, a perfect woman, a malcontent hero--what more can you ask of a big-budget science fiction movie? Luc Besson's high-octane film incorporates presidents, rock stars, and cab drivers into its peculiar plot, traversing worlds and encountering some pretty wild aliens. Bruce Willis stars as a down-and-out cabbie who must win the love of Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) to save Earth from destruction by Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg (Gary Oldman) and a dark, unearthly force that makes Darth Vader look like an Ewok. --Geoff Riley

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great HD remastering
Some Blu Ray remasterings or reissues of prior DVDs can leave one a litte "so?", but with some movies -- "The Fall", "Baraka", and the "Fifth Element", you will remember why you bought that HD TV in the first place.

Those of us who liked or loved this movie really enjoyed the plot, the vivid colors, and the special effects for reasons other reviewers have touched on.

However, the colors are even more vivid, the soundtrack more lush, and the special effects litterally jump ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Can't get enough
This is a favourite of mine. Got it on VHS, 2 DVDs and now Blu-Ray. I love Sci-Fi and this is very cool. Besson is a great director and he has hit the right tone here. As a fan of Willis, I think he has hit it right on the money here: not a lot of that die hard stuff, but you can't really kill him either. Tucker, of course, is a loudmouth, and here his character actually fits the actor.
And Milla? Well.. what can I say. The best element of all.
Another example of great French cinema.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Classic movie just got better
This is one of those movies that I can watch again and again and enjoy it every time.

Thanks to Blu-Ray, I'm enjoying it even more!

The colors are amazing in this transfer! The detail you see in outstanding!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent on every level
I just bought a blu-ray player, and thought this would make for a good inaugural disk. I've enjoyed watching this in SD, and hoped the high def version would be even better.

Happy to say I was not at all disappointed. The video and sound are both excellent -- it's a great way to see what your blu-ray play can deliver.

There are, however, no extras on the disk - just the movie. But the movie alone is well worth the price of admission. If you're a science fiction fan, a Bruce Willis ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - a Film for Generations
I want to say first this Is the greatest B movie of the Decade.
Why rehash the plot for you again?
I will say this movie will get dusted off every generation for a long time to come.
If you have not seen It do yourself a favor and get to a rental store promptly. If you have and now perhaps have a widescreen TV-again I say do yourself a favor and watch It again. In It's original presentation this movie Is fantastic to watch and with a big enough budget for a classic they produced one! The special ... Read More
