Editorial Review:

Amazon.com essential recording:
Granted, Sweet Old World isn't the masterpiece that 1988's Lucinda Williams is. The too-simple explanations of "He Never Got Enough Love" aren't up to Williams's mile-high standards, and the arrangements throughout are often so similar to that previous release's that the melodic differences here aren't as clear as they might've been. But when she raises her vulnerable cry to sing the three, pained perspectives on suicide that are at the heart of this album--the title track, "Little Angel, Little Brother," and "Pineola"--Williams's very humanity provides its own proof that, while this world can indeed be cruel, it can also be oh so sweet. --David Cantwell

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - West is still the best
After listening Lucinda Williams' album West I became an instant fan and bought a couple of more CDs right away.
Car Wheels on a Gravel Road was nearly as good as West but somehow Sweet Old World appeared to be a bit too easy peace from an artist with this kind of talent. Lucinda Williams can do better.
Don't get me wrong. Sweet Old World is not a poor album. On the contrary. But many of the songs are just beautiful "traditional" tracks without the soul tearing spices of songs on album ... Read More

What can I say...her voice is great...I can listen to this over and over.
Also check out "West" and "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road"

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good CD
Lucinda Williams has that southern rock, southern bluesy twang to her voice and music. Some of the songs are funky, but all of them enjoyable. You can't help but to start singing and moving your body. I recommend this CD if you what a little bit of country mixed with the blues, and a little rock-n-roll woven in.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - God! I love Lucinda
Lucinda Williams! On the surface her lyrics can sometimes seem so simple, but they always hit the mark.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not her best, but still great
This album was sandwiched in between Lucinda's two masterpieces -- her self-titled album and Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. It's a marvelous record that only suffers by comparison a little bit. Make this the third Lucinda album you buy.
