Editorial Review: Product Description: The bombing of pearl harbor is presented from both the american & japanese viewpoints with some fantastic action scenes. Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 05/13/2008 Starring: Joseph Cotten Soh Yomamura Run time: 144 minutes Rating: G Amazon.com: "Sir, there's a large formation of planes coming in from the north, 140 miles, 3 degrees east." "Yeah? Don't worry about it." This is just one of the many mishaps chronicled in Tora! Tora! Tora! The epic film shows the bombing of Pearl Harbor from both sides in the historic first American-Japanese coproduction: American director Richard Fleischer oversaw the complicated production (the Japanese sequences were directed by Toshio Masuda and Kinji Fukasaku, after Akira Kurosawa withdrew from the film), wrestling a sprawling story with dozens of characters into a manageable, fairly easy-to-follow film. The first half maps out the collapse of diplomacy between the nations and the military blunders that left naval and air forces sitting ducks for the impending attack, while the second half is an amazing re-creation of the devastating battle. While Tora! Tora! Tora! lacks the strong central characters that anchor the best war movies, the real star of the film is the climactic 30-minute battle, a massive feat of cinematic engineering that expertly conveys the surprise, the chaos, and the immense destruction of the only attack by a foreign power on American soil since the Revolutionary War. The special effects won a well-deserved Oscar, but the film was shut out of every other category by, ironically, the other epic war picture of the year, Patton. --Sean Axmaker Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - A Balanced Treatment of the Pearl Harbor AttackThis film combines the fun and excitement of a hollywood thriller with the accuracy of a documentary. It is memorable, well acted and superbly directed. Rating: - A CLASSIC STILL GOOD TODAY!!!TORA! TORA! TORA! is the Japanese signal to attack and this epic film co-produced by American & Japanese interests shows both sides of the story as it builds to the climatic attack on Pearl Harbor which ultimately brought America into WWII. The film does a terrific job of alternating back and forth between the Japanese and American stories so that the viewer gains a good understanding of the circumstances on each side as well as the sequence of events leading up to the attack. The story, by most ... Read More Rating: - Tora! Tora! Tora!Simply put, this is the best movie about the attack on Pearl Harbor. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the Historical facts about the attack. Rating: - After 38 years this is still the best portrayal of the attack on Pearl Harbor. If you ever wondered what it might be like to be at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, this film is your best bet. It is a long, careful, meticulous look, at a monumental event. It is also extremely well balanced. This is no Gung Ho propaganda film. It shows equally how skillfully the Japanese caught the U.S. off guard, how ill prepared the U.S. was for the attack, and how bravely the American servicemen tried to make the best of a horrible reality. It keenly illustrates the ironic ... Read More Rating: - Tora Tora ToraWhilst not having the range of special effects wizardry that we saw in 'Pearl Harbour ' my opinion is Tora! Tora! Tora! is a far superior version of events leading up to and including the attack on Pearl Harbour. I thought the movie was an accurate account of the the attack and gave a good perspective from both the Japanese and American sides. Certainly ranks in the upper bracket of very good war movies and has been warmly welcomed into my movie collection. CnhotelShop
